Character texturing, Gyroscope
In week 8, more progress is made on the storybook illustrations and we initiated contact with some shortlisted printing shops to check if they are able to print what we require. The 3D characters have been textured after unwrapping it’s individual UV and importing the model into Substance Painter. Programming of the AR markers and functionality of Gyroscope are in the draft version in this Sprint. We will be making use of the two weeks break to catch up on our product backlog items. Individual interim reports are due this week for capstone and we shared our progress at the midpoint VIVA for CPD.
3D character texturing on model

Platypus
For the 3D model of our platypus, it has hard edges which was smoothen out after considering that the 2d concept art had more soft edges. The basic shape of the 3D model is created in maya while all the textures such as fur and patterns of the tail is done in substance painter. The feet was modelled with no toes initially, but was changed to those with toes to match the webbed feet of an actual platypus.

Duckling
For the duckling, the ribbon was the main feature in the character concept design which naturally have to be brought into our 3D model. The duckling’s wings are partially attached to the body to assist in the rigging and each strand of hair is unique in terms of shape and size. In substance painter, blush and feathers are textured on to help the children visualise our characters in 3D. The selling point of our duckling is maintained in the 3D with the blush and ribbon.

Beaver
The 3D model of our beaver is intended to have similar tails to our platypus thus the pattern on the tail is the same as that of the 3D platypus. Due to the limited textures in substance painter, a fence pattern was used for the tail. The fur is later created in substance painter as well and the teeth sticks out for the 3D modelling.
